Work from more than 150 artists will be exhibited at the 2019 Auckland Art Fair, which runs from 1-5 May.

The line up of 41 galleries has participants from across New Zealand and Australia, the Pacific, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Chile. Surprisingly there is only one representative from the South Island, Milford Galleries. Many of the artists, both well-known and emerging, are creating new work for the Fair.

The, now annual, event has been run under the directorship of Stephanie Post and Hayley White since 2016. ‘We are pleased to have established a platform where the breadth and diversity of some of the best art and artists working in our region can be showcased,’ says Stephanie.

Alongside the galleries in the main section of the fair, Piki Mai: Up Here ^^ returns again this year. ‘These young galleries and artist run spaces will show the work of exceptional emerging artists, and will be a must-see for anyone visiting the fair,’ says Stephanie. Piki Mai offers a snapshot of artists whose work could appear at future art fairs.

The three Piki Mai galleries for 2019 are Auckland’s Mercy Pictures, Wellington’s play_station and Hamilton’s Weasel Gallery.
