First response

Updated: Jun 30, 2020

A $16 million emergency package for artists has been announced by Creative New Zealand.

Applications for the first phase will open next week, on 14 April.

CNZ says the initial investment reflects a changed landscape and bolsters a sector knocked to its knees by the impact of COVID-19.

‘The design of our Emergency Response Package is well-progressed, including our ability to deliver it within the rapidly changing environment,’ says Chief Executive Stephen Wainwright. He adds that, ‘we’ll monitor the situation and reassess the need and level for our support.’

The package has two components.

  1. Resilience Grants: for eligible artists, practitioners, arts groups and organisations under two categories - an Arts Continuity Grant and an Emergency Relief Grant.

  2. Short-term Relief for Investment Clients: for the 83 arts organisations currently receiving multi-year funding.

The relief money will be distributed to the sector through to 30 June 2020.
